Ghetto Story

I know its been a while since this site has been updated.  First off, I would like to greet
the reggae massive a Happy New Year and may it be a blessed one.  Many things have
happened in 2005 and now another year to keep up with.... so be safe and take care of each other.

Aside from planning my wedding, I hope to keep up with the emails and requests for updates.
So we start the first mix of the year with a boomshot... a straight two and a half hours of continuous mix.
A little equipment upgrade and a thing called "microtrack 2496" from m-audio should make my life
easier in terms of bringing in new audio mixes.  Any requests?  Just drop me a line...

Full tracklisting of over 80 tunes, ranging from jump-up to remixes to hardcore dancehall and
back again to the one drop.  If you absolutely need to throw a reggae party but with no DJ in sight, no worries...
just play this mix and hook it up to your speakers.  We start the mix with the new riddim called "Istanbul" with
solid tracks from Anthony B, Natural Black and of course, Jah Cure.  We follow that with the "Marcus Garvey"
riddim featuring Bunny Rugs and Natty King.  We pay a visit to the immortal "Doctor's Darling" riddim then off
to the remixes.  First is Tanya's "It's a Pity" remix brought to us by the series of Deadly Medley Soundbwoy crew.
We dive into a couple of tracks from Damian Marley's "Welcome to Jamrock" album, a sale of 80,000 units in
its first week.  Combination tune from Nas and Jr. Gong on "Road to Zion".  A few more remixes, with highlights
from the Warrior Remix kru series featuring Capleton and TOK.  Into the dancehall segment, we start with the riddim
called "Stepz", otherwise made popular by Sean Paul "We'll be Burning".  Then into the riddim called "Applause",
another great riddim highlighted by Sean Paul's "Temperature".  If you see the pattern here, yes you guessed it.
Basically, I chose a few tunes from "Trinity" album and paired it with other notable dancehall tunes that have been burning the charts
other than the dutty man himself.  A favorite of mine is the remix with Lil Jon, Sizzla and Spragga on the Applause riddim.
Then the very hard riddim called "Sirene", featuring reality tunes from Buju, Sean Paul and the heavy Vybz Kartel.
If you check out the muzikmedia website there is a video of Vybz Kartel called "Emergency".  My favorite tune right now.
We come next to the "Old Truck" riddim, a sound so reminiscent of the 90's dancehall productions.
Then we finally get to the Title of this Mix.  The "85 Riddim" brought to us by Dave Kelly by way of the Mad House Label.
It's just crazy how this guy can drop so many bombs from the 90's up to now.  This tune by Baby Cham called "Ghetto Story" is
just a chillin recount of how growing up in the kingston area can be so tough.  At one point, this tune was banned by Irie FM.
Assasin's tune is also sweet on this riddim.  Then for the old timers out there, I throw in something that was running the dance.
The riddim is called "Superstar" with tracks from Buju, Frisco Kid, Elephant Man, Sean Paul and Spragga  / Lady Saw combo.

Staying true to the 90's sound, we bring back the "Gigi" riddim with tracks from Tami Chin, Buju Banton, Wayne Marshall,
Leftside and Esco.  The tune from Beenie Man is the toughest in my opinion, a homage to his slain brother.
We then flip the vibe with the "Superior" riddim.  Tracks from Ras Shiloh, Lutan Fyah, Morgan Heritage and Gentleman.
We finish the mix with a couple of Jamrock remixes and a medley to the man who started the whole phenomena, Ini Kamoze.
If you check his self titled album released in the 80's and produced by Sly and Robbie, you will know that its only fitting that
he gets his due.  In my opinion, that album features the toughest riddims that Sly and Robbie ever produced.  In a BBC interview,
Sly Dunbar was quoted as saying that he produced over a million tracks.  Now that's just crazy.  Sly and Robbie have always
favored their early productions with Ini Kamoze as one of their highlights.

So sit back and relax.  Forward Ever... Backward Never...Cease the war.
